Madan Lal is one of those Himalayan team members guests remember after the trek — because the food was hot at 11,000 ft, and because he knew the shortcut when snow covered the main path.

Years of work on Garhwal camping treks: kitchen setup in wind, managing fuel and water, and helping slower trekkers on steep sections. He reads mountain weather the way locals do — by cloud movement and wind, not only phone apps.

Why a good cook matters at altitude

Cold and altitude kill appetite. Simple dal, rice, and morning chai done right keep groups walking. Madan runs the camp kitchen on many of our Uttarkashi district departures.
