About this trek
The Kashmir Great Lakes Trek is one of the most beautiful treks in India, situated in the picturesque Kashmir Valley. This route strings together a series of high-altitude alpine lakes, snow-capped mountains and lush green meadows, making every day feel like you are walking through a postcard.
Starting from the popular meadow town of Sonamarg on the banks of the Sindh River, the trail climbs through forests of pine and maple to Nichnai Pass, and then flows across valleys dotted with lakes like Vishansar, Kishansar, Gadsar, Satsar and Gangbal.
With its turquoise lakes, wildflower-filled valleys and sweeping views of Kashmir’s most scenic ridges, this is a must-do adventure for any trekker who dreams of seeing the Himalayas at their most serene and cinematic.

Itinerary
Arrive in Srinagar and meet the trek team. Drive to Sonamarg, a beautiful meadow town on the banks of the Sindh River. Check into your accommodation, attend a trek briefing and rest for the night in Sonamarg.
Trek from Sonamarg to Nichnai. The trail climbs gradually through forests of pine and maple and opens into high meadows. Camp at Nichnai under a starry sky, surrounded by mountain walls on all sides.
Trek from Nichnai to Vishansar Lake via Nichnai Pass. Cross the pass for your first big views of Kashmir’s high ridges. Descend to the camp near Vishansar Lake and rest beside its pristine blue waters. Overnight stay in tents.
Trek from Vishansar Lake to Gadsar Lake. The trail passes Kishansar Lake and climbs to the Gadsar Pass, one of the high points of the trek. Descend to the turquoise waters of Gadsar Lake and camp nearby. Overnight in tents.
Trek from Gadsar to Satsar, a cluster of interconnected lakes set in a wide valley. Enjoy views of rolling meadows and distant ranges as you walk. Overnight stay in tents at Satsar.
Trek from Satsar to Gangbal Lake via Zajibal Pass. This is another highlight day with grand mountain and valley views. Reach the twin lakes of Gangbal and Nandkol and camp near one of Kashmir’s most iconic alpine lake settings.
Trek from Gangbal Lake to Naranag, descending steadily through forested ridges and meadows. Reach Naranag by evening and wind down from the trek. Overnight stay or onward drive as per plan.
Drive back to Srinagar from Naranag (or as per the final day’s logistics). Depart with unforgettable memories of Kashmir’s lakes, meadows and mountain vistas.

All required trek permits, entry charges and camping fees on the route.
High-quality tents, sleeping bags (rated for Himalayan conditions), mats and basic safety gear.
Experienced trek leader, local guides, cooks and support staff.
Exclusions
Porters / mules for personal luggage (available on request at additional cost).
Emergency evacuation, medical expenses or any unforeseen costs.
Bottled water, soft drinks and snacks purchased en route.
Flights / train / bus travel to and from Srinagar city.
