Dayara Bugyal Trek

About this trek
Dayara Bugyal is often celebrated as one of India’s most beautiful high-altitude meadows. In the local language, Bugyal means “alpine pastureland” — and Dayara lives up to its name with vast rolling grasslands spread across the upper Garhwal region.
Located above 10,000 ft in Uttarkashi district, this trek is ideal for beginners, families, and nature lovers. The trail takes you through thick forests of oak and maple, charming mountain clearings, and finally opens into the grand, open slopes of Dayara Bugyal, stretching over several kilometres.
The trek offers unforgettable views of the Bandarpunch massif, Black Peak, Srikanth, and Jaonli — making it a perfect blend of easy walking and majestic Himalayan scenery.

Itinerary
Start early from Dehradun and enjoy a scenic mountain drive via Mussoorie and Uttarkashi. The road runs alongside the Bhagirathi River, offering stunning views throughout. By afternoon, arrive at Raithal (7,545 ft) — a peaceful Himalayan village and the base camp of your trek. Spend the evening acclimatizing, interacting with locals, and enjoying the crisp mountain air. Overnight stay in Raithal.
After breakfast, begin the gradual climb from Raithal to Gui. The trail passes through dense forests filled with oak, maple, and in spring, blooming rhododendrons in shades of pink and red. The trail is well-marked and easy to follow, with resting points along the way. At Gui Campsite, you’re welcomed by sweeping views of Garhwal’s snow-capped peaks, including Bandarpunch. Spend the evening enjoying the calm surroundings and settle in for the night.
Today is the most rewarding part of the trek. Start your ascent toward Dayara Bugyal, passing through forest patches and gentle slopes. As the trees begin to thin out, the landscape suddenly opens into the vast, sprawling Dayara meadow, stretching endlessly in every direction. Walk to the high point — Bakriya Top (approx. 12,200 ft) — which offers breathtaking panoramic views of Srikanth, Jaonli, Bandarpunch, Black Peak, Darwa Pass, and the Uttarkashi valley with its surrounding villages. Enjoy a packed lunch, explore the meadow, take photos, and soak in the Himalayan silence before descending back to Gui for the night.
After breakfast, begin the easy descent back to Raithal through the same forested trail. Once at Raithal, board your vehicle for the return journey to Dehradun. Carry back unforgettable memories of lush meadows, snowy peaks, and peaceful Himalayan landscapes.
