How to reach Uttarakhand trailheads — trains, buses and honest travel times.
Most Delhi trekkers reach us via Dehradun or Haridwar/Rishikesh, then a full day of mountain road to the trailhead. There is no same-day “Delhi to camp” for Garhwal treks — plan at least two travel days before your trek starts.
Train: Nanda Devi Express, Shatabdi, Jan Shatabdi — roughly 5.5–7 hours. Book IRCTC in advance for long weekends.
Bus: Volvo from ISBT Kashmere Gate, ~6–7 hours overnight common for trek groups.
Flight: Jolly Grant airport (DED), 1 hour to Dehradun city by taxi.
Sankri (Kedarkantha, Har Ki Dun): ~220 km, 9–10 hrs — shared Sumo ₹1,000–₹1,500/seat.
Uttarkashi → Raithal (Dayara Bugyal): ~6 hrs total from Dehradun via Uttarkashi.
Uttarkashi → Agoda (Dodital): our home valley, ~5–6 hrs from Dehradun.
Rishikesh → Sari (Chopta/Tungnath): ~7–8 hrs.
Useful for Chopta, some yatra routes, or if your package starts from the Ganga belt. Shatabdi and evening trains run daily. Add 7–10 hours mountain driving after that to reach high trailheads — do not underestimate this leg.
Day 0: Night train/bus Delhi → Dehradun.
Day 1 AM: Arrive Dehradun, breakfast, drive to Sankri (evening).
Day 2: Trek begins. You need this buffer — not “reach Dehradun and start walking”.
